Product Details

This rare wide-legged palazzo pantsuit was designed by John Bates for his Jean Varon label. John Bates has been a sorely underappreciated figure from 1960's and 70's fashion, who apprenticed under couturier Herbert Sidon, and started his own label in 1960. He innovated a number of styles that would go on to be 60's signatures, such as see through-panels, cut-outs, and "underwear as outerwear". He is also sometimes credited with the invention of the miniskirt, though the title is highly contested! Bates won the prestigious "Dress of the Year" title in 1965.
A white version of this piece was photographed by David Bailey for the January 1969 edition of Vogue UK, as shown in the second photo. This number, in black, is lined, with pockets. Dress it up with accessories, or let this little slice of vintage history shine on its own! You will be incredibly chic either way.

Measurements:

Bust: 32"-38"
Waist: 24"-30"
Hips: 34"-42"
Inseam: 25"
Total Length: 56"

Label: Jean Varon

Material: I believe that it is a poly jersey

Condition: Very good vintage condition. There is some minor wear the seams and also a couple of pin size holes near the hem of the pants. Due to the voluminous fabric, the holes are very hard to spot. It has been priced accordingly.
